The Art of Not-Knowing: A Future That Already Exists

Can we connect with a reality we don’t yet know? This question has been haunting me for a while. It started with my art – could I create something without thinking it up first? After endless experimenting, it happened: a moment of complete surrender where pure creation flowed through me. It felt like an explosion of possibilities.

That experience changed everything. Because what if this is just the beginning? A first glimpse of what’s possible? The desire to share this energy grew stronger and stronger. But how do you share something like this without immediately falling into theory and rationality?

My second book became a first attempt. Not an explanation, but an experience that would let readers feel what happens when you dare to go beyond the known. The magic worked – responses poured in from people who felt it, who turned “ON.” But for me, this was just the beginning.

Because once you’ve felt that so much more is possible, our current world suddenly seems like a pale reflection. We need alternatives! Why is it that in apocalyptic films, we can only imagine zombies and destruction? That’s just made up too.

Then came an idea that wouldn’t leave: what if I wrote a book from a future that has already happened? Not science fiction, but a reality so close you can taste it. A story that lets readers experience that this new reality already exists.

Now I’m in the middle of that adventure. A rollercoaster! Because to write such a book, I naturally have to do what I’m writing about: completely let go, surrender, allow the story that already exists to flow through me.

It’s exciting. How do you describe something that hasn’t taken form yet? How do you find words for a reality beyond our current frameworks? But the more I dare to trust, the more unfolds. It comes in flashes, images, feelings that don’t yet have words. Sometimes I wake up at night with scenes so clear I have to write them down immediately. Glimpses of a world where we’re finally free to be ourselves.

It takes courage to step into that not-knowing again and again. To look beyond our limitations. But somewhere I feel: this future already exists. It’s not fantasy. It’s a potential that wants to take form through us.

So here I sit. In front of an empty document, while images of a new world flow through me. Each day I choose again: staying open to what’s still unimaginable. Writing in that energy. Making it tangible.

"I am Tessa Smits, and I will take you on an adventurous journey to explore the unknown and the supposedly impossible. My second novel, ‘I Give Birth To The Universe’, is a prime example of this, where our infinite creative power takes center stage. For me, art is the means to make tangible what cannot be expressed in words. Whether I’m creating art, writing, or crafting something else, my intention remains the same: to seek out what truly touches us, what is real, and what reminds us as human beings of who we truly are—immeasurably powerful."
